Make Electricity

Your Servant

^ Using electricity for lighting only is like hiring a servant by

the week and giving her every afternoon "out." Electricity is

at your service 24 hours out of 24 and is an untiring "servant

in the house," ready when you turn the switch with a hundred

uses in addition to lighting.

^ Electric cooking is made practicable by "colorite," an alloy

that transforms electricity into heat as effectively as the

tungsten filament transforms electricity into light.

^ "Colorite" is practically indestructible and for this reason

cooking devices are as durable as they are convenient.

^ The devices can be carried from room to room and used

wherever there is a convenient electric light socket. They are

clean, convenient, rapid, flameless and as safe as electric light.

^ Electricity is as superior for cooking to older methods as

electric light is to other illuminants.

Historical Memoranda of R. A. Smith Camp No. 484
United Confederate Veterans, and Other Con-
federate Associations of Macon
Bibb County, Georgia

A meeting of Confederate Veterans was held at the Court House, May
4th, 1889, at 12 o'clock a. m. Major J. B. Cobb was elected Chairman of the
meeting-, and Joseph T. Derry, Secretary.

The object of the meeting was to organize a Confederate Survivors'
Association for Bibb County.

A committee of three was appointed to draw up a Constitution and By-
Laws. The committee consisted of the following. J. T. Derry, R. E. Park,
and R. A. Nisbet.

The Confederate Survivors Association met again on the 3d day of
June, 1889, and the organization was perfected by the election of the fol-
lowing officers: C. M. Wiley, Commander; J. B. Cobb, Vice-Commander;
J. T. Derry, Secretary, and Hugh McKervey, Treasurer.

The Association retained the name of Confederate Survivors Association
of Bibb County, until April 15th, 1901, when by unanimous vote, the name
was changed to that of Col. R. A. Smith Camp, and by authority of the
United Confederate Veterans Association, received its camp number, 484.

The preserved minutes of the Confederate Survivors Association of Bibb
County, furnishes abundant evidence that benevolence and charity was the
actuating purpose of the organization. That all honor is due to the self-
sacrificing devotion of the patriot, so prominently exemplified by the
courage of the Confederate soldiers, and that such devotion and courage
fhould be kept in remembrance as long as an admiration for these attributes
finds a responsive echo in the hearts of men.

The R. A. Smith Camp, the successor of the original Association, will
cherish and proclaim the patriotic principles fought for, suffered for, and
died for by the Confederate soldier until their hearts and minds and tongues
are spent in the sflence of death.

AND Forty-two Other Irishmen Who Defeated

15,000 AT Sabine Pass, Texas

This brave little band of Irishmen, with two cannon, in a battle
lasting about thirty minutes disabled the Federal gunboats Clifton
and Sachem and crippled another gunboat. Over one hundred
Federals were killed and four hundred and twenty-nine prisoners,
together with the two disabled gunboats, were captured, while the
Confederates did not lose a man. Thus ended the attempt made
by 15,000 Federals to land on Texas soil.
